John & Amanda’s Great North Run For Meningitis Now

In September 2021, Amanda and John completed the Great North Run for Meningitis Now. Together they raised £1030.00 in addition to a Gift Aid donation of £898.75! Amanda, John and the rest of the CiS Team would like to thank everyone who has donated.

According to statistics, 22 people every day are affected by meningitis, who Meningitis Now aim to help and support. Ultimately the goal is to eliminate meningitis from the UK. Your donations can help save lives and support critical research into this disease. If you’d like to donate, please click this link: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/AmandaGray3 Launched in 2021, Making a difference, every day reinforces our commitment to saving lives, rebuilding futures and continuing to make a difference in the fight against meningitis over the next five years.

It has three key objectives:

  • Fight to defeat meningitis in the UK within a generation;
    Reach out to everyone who needs our help, support and information
  • Be recognised as a centre of expertise for aftercare and support.

The strategy outlines our commitment to investing in lifesaving research, improving awareness of vaccines and influencing policy-makers to improve early diagnosis and treatment of meningitis. It also looks at how we will improve meningitis awareness and focus on promoting our support services more widely, directly supporting those affected by meningitis. (From Meningitis Now Website)

Here is Amanda & John Story:

“Our son, Ollie, contracted Pneumococcal Meningitis at 16 weeks old and had two neurological surgeries ( two months apart) to save his life, resulting in an Acquired Brain Injury. Though life has been tough at times, he has grown into a positive and hard-working young man who uses his experiences to help others. Ollie took part in the Believe and Achieve programme which helps build confidence, friendships and support to young people affected by Meningitis and has gone on to become a Peer Mentor for this charity.

John and I have taken on the challenge of The Great North Run in September 2021, to help raise funds to support Meningitis Now as they…..

continue to help those at-risk to protect themselves and provide vital support for people whose lives have been touched by meningitis.

‘Making a difference, every day

Thank you

Amanda, John, Ollie & Dan”
